The novella follows Murderbot as it investigates the murder of a stranger on Preservation Station but this time, it isn’t working alone, or even begrudgingly accepting the help of its human charges/companions. ![]() Beneath the familiar SF action tropes this is an affecting story about the emotional trauma of slavery, in which a deeply wounded character takes its first tentative steps on. The events occur after the short story Home: Habitat, Range, Niche, Territory. Like the rest of the series, Exit Strategy is about much more than the vicarious thrill of watching Murderbot beat up bad guys and exact revenge upon an evil corporation. Yes, the unthinkable is about to happen: Murderbot must voluntarily speak to humans!įugitive Telemetry is a novella taking place between the end of Exit Strategy and the flashbacks in Network Effect, released on Apfrom Tor.com. ![]() When Murderbot discovers a dead body on Preservation Station, it knows it is going to have to assist station security to determine who the body is (was), how they were killed (that should be relatively straightforward, at least), and why (because apparently that matters to a lot of people―who knew?) Murderbot is suspicious when the robot ship it has taken to HaveRatton Station is diverted to a dock near station security. If I had, I wouldn't dump the body in the station mall.
