Pond louise bennett6/30/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ** A fence is highly recommended, however, there were no specific requirements in our city's code After the usual back & forth phone tag, I provided my email address & got the following in writing: The planner had not run across a Koi pond in his experience and promised me a call back in several days. * I stressed that this is not a swimming pool, nor an attempt to get around any safety/permit requirements * I provided the dimensions & asked if I would need a permit * I explained that I would be enclosing the pond with fencing is a "no brainer" & asked if there were any requirements/permits * I stressed that I want a safe installation & would be more than pleased to meet any code requirements * I explained that I would be building an "in ground" Koi pond & asked for his assistance in determining what was needed in the way of permits * As Kent advised, I was my usual friendly self With that in mind, I called my local planning department: Any issues were resolved through pleasant conversation, and follow up as needed.Ĭombative individuals were assumed to either be hiding something, or were just plain stupid as it dragged out the process & the inspection lapsed into strict enforcement of code requirements. That way, I could inspect, tell jokes, laugh & then depart the vessel knowing that it is manned by professionals and that "all is well". I used to be a code inspector on ships, there was nothing better than showing up on the vessel, and having all approvals in place and a smiling Captain or Port Captain on board. ![]()
